Infant Swimming Resource’s Self-Rescue™ survival swimming program is a 4-6 week course, scheduled 5 days per week, Monday through Friday, for 10 minutes each day. With a focus on safe, customized, one-on-one lessons by certified Instructors, ISR’s survival swimming lessons emphasize health, ongoing program evaluations and parent education to deliver the most effective and safest results in the industry. Children may begin lessons at 6 months of age until 6 years of age. Lessons for a 6-12 month old focus on teaching the child to roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe, and to be able to maintain this life-saving position until help arrives. Lessons for children 1-6 years old focus on teaching the swim-float-swim survival sequence. Children learn to swim with their head down; roll onto their back to float, rest, and breathe; and roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool, where they can either crawl out or until they can be rescued. Once the children are fully skilled they will practice ISR’s survival techniques fully clothed during lessons. It is recommended that children complete refresher lessons to help their in-water skill level grow with their physical development.
Refresher lessons are extremely important in continuing and maintaining your child’s ISR Self-Rescue™ skill development. Children grow and develop rapidly from infants to toddlers and young children. This development process represents improved strength, coordination, and a more finely tuned cognitive ability. In accordance with this growth, children enrolled in ISR return periodically to participate in Refresher Lessons. Refresher lessons are designed to fine-tune your child’s existing ISR Self-Rescue™ skills to meet the demands of their growing bodies. It will allow them to make adjustments in their float and strengthen their swim. Previous Swim-Float-Swim students will take approximately 2 weeks to complete. Previous Rollback-to-Float students, refresher lessons will likely take approximately 3-4 weeks.
Maintenance lessons are also available at any time for regular fine-tuning of your child’s skills. These lessons are highly recommended. Maintenance lessons could be just a single day, or multiple days in a week. We will discuss what would work best for your child once they have completed their skills lessons. As a general rule, I suggest at least monthly.
Our lessons are custom tailored to your child, so it's important for us to connect first so we can talk a little bit about your child. I'll ask questions about what their experience has been so far with the water. In addition, I will chat with a little more about what Infant Swimming Resource is and how the lessons are structured. We can chat schedule, location and pricing too. This is a great time to bring all of your questions- I love to hear them!
When we chat, we'll discuss scheduling and when the next available session is. Your child will be coming to lessons every day, Monday-Friday, for approximately 6-8 weeks. You'll want to take a look at schedules, and find a time slot that works for you for the entirety of the program. Consistency with these lessons is so important. Lessons are a maximum of 10 minutes a day, but we will have a 15 minute time slot to ensure there's time for questions and discussion each day.
When you're ready to sign up, I'll send you a link to my schedule for you to pick your time, and make a non-refundable deposit, which will cover the first week's tuition. This will secure your spot.
When we are looking at the schedule, I will also send you a link to register with Infant Swimming Resource. This is required of all children in the ISR community. The cost of registration is approximately $100 and is a non-refundable fee that is good for an entire year. The form will ask you a series of questions in regards to your child, their experience with the water and some medical background as well. It is important to be as thorough and honest as possible. We have a wonderful team of nurses that review the information you've provided. As mentioned, safety is our number one priority, and this team is one of the unique ways ISR provides that added layer of safety to our lessons. Once submitted, please keep an eye on your email. They will reach out if they need some additional information from you there, and also let you know if your student is approved, and if there's anything I as an Instructor need to do to ensure my lesson's with your child are the safest they can be.
